Music Made in Paradise
Each year, the Salt Spring Chamber Music Festival invites up to 15 gifted young string and keyboard players to participate in the week-long festival on Salt Spring Island, B.C. Students are mentored and work directly with the festival's faculty artists as well as special guests and festival artists-in-residence. The Festival Sinfonia Showcase features both faculty and students performing side-by-side in concert. The week includes masterclasses, some lessons, chamber music coaching, open forum/workshops, chamber and solo performances, as well as special mystery events and, sometimes, even tango dance instruction!
Admission as an artist participant in the festival is by audition only. Audition DVDs should be received no later than May 15, 2018. Fees for the 2018 Festival Week are $800CDN and each student accepted into the program receives a $200CDN scholarship toward the total tuition payable. An administration fee of $150 reserves your place at the festival; the fee will be deducted from your tuition payable. There are a limited number of partial bursaries available for students with financial need. Please indicate if you wish to be considered for this support. You may be asked to produce documents such as your 2016 CRA Tax Return in order to demonstrate financial need.
Students are billeted with Salt Spring Island residents who welcome students to their beautiful homes and provide safe accommodation for them during their festival stay. Most meals are provided by the festival for the students during the week. Students will be responsible for lunch-time meals. Activities such as whale-watching and kayaking are not covered by tuition and are the responsibility of the student.
